Another Winning Image

Updated: Aug 26

I was thrilled to get the phone call that my image was a winner! Last, year during a fall Family portraits session my client went above and beyond to style the whole family beautifully. While I was taking photographs at Prospect Park in Redlands, California we ran across this little pocket of green that had the most beautiful light.

I immediately knew this was the spot for this little girl. I could see the image in my mind. I showed the little model where to stand. We had already established a connection so I knew this was going to be easy. I had to get low because well...I am 6'3" and she is well...short. I focused, composed, and pressed the shutter after making sure my exposure was correct. This was the image.

As soon as I got home, I loaded the images onto the computer and pulled this one up to show my wife. She knew immediately that we had a winner. Now, I don't just mean that we had an image to bring Mom to tears. I mean we literally had a winning image. In the first month of 2020 I entered this image into a photography image competition with the Inland Empire Professional Photographers and Videographers group in Riverside, California. Then COVID-19 struck...everything was put on hold but the club conducted the competition virtually. I watched the competition and there were some really great images. The Children's portrait category was competitive. When the score for my image was read I knew I had enough points to merit (this is how you earn your stripes in the group). But was it a winner. I hadn't kept track of everyones scores! Well a few weeks later I got the phone call that this image was the Best in Class for the children portrait category.

This is the second time I have one this aware for an image in the Children's portrait category and I hope that I can keep meriting and winning. Here is a link to my first win! Also the rest of this actual portrait session was amazing. We captured some really great images. Here are a few.
