Dad couldn't come to the session...Now What?

Updated: Aug 26

Karly tried everything she could to be able to schedule a time that would work well for her family. In fact, she knew her young daughter wouldn't be in good spirits for an evening photo session so we worked with Karly to have the session in the morning when her daughter was fresh and bright (I use to be fresh and bright in the mornings too 😁.) Despite all the planning there was no way Dad could make it - his work schedule just couldn't accommodate a time that worked. Did Karly decide to wait until he could make it and their baby was older? Nope! Instead we adapted. The great thing is that the weather in Riverside, CA during October-December is pretty excellent. On this day, we were blessed with clouds to give us a beautiful soft light no matter where we decided to stop to take pictures.

So, rather than being a full family session we turned this session into a quick Mommy and Me session! Karly was absolutely right about her baby being in a good mood in the morning. She was all the happier because her Mommy let her wear her favorite pink Hello Kitty Crocs for the photos. She quickly warmed up to us and we began to capture just the cutest interaction between mother and daughter. There were kisses and hugs, a few proud steps, and so many smiles! Your heart just melts when you see how much love a baby has for their momma. Oh and the little kissy face in the bottom right is absolutely the best. It was a great little session and afterwards we all got to have some coffee!

When it was time for the ordering appointment, Dad was able to be there and both he and Karly loved the images. In fact, the purchased a large piece of wall art of Karly holding baby girl up in the air and some gifts for family. But...we could tell that they were a little bummed that Dad wouldn't be on any of the Holiday cards we designed. So I offered a solution!

Karly sent me their favorite image of Dad and Baby together and I did a little editing magic to make the image have similar tones and the images I took. Then we included that image on the card design they loved. So in the end, Dad wasn't able to be at the session but he was on the card and they have beautiful images to cherish for years to come. Hopefully, next time we will be able to schedule with the entire family!
