Getting to know Karla

Updated: Aug 26

First, let me get this out of the way. Karla slayed her senior portraits session. Hair and make-up were on point! The wardrobe - OMG! Her champagne colored dress was marvelous with the sun set! Finally, she took directions wonderfully so the whole senior portraits session just popped. Whew - just had to get that off my chest. Now for the rest.

So not everyone is into photography. I get it, not everyone wants to spend thousands of hours and dollars learning how to create art with their camera. When I am asked this question, I always have to think for a second. Sure, I love the technology side of things. I love the art and creating pretty pictures. I love the nostalgic feeling I get when I hold a beautiful print. But...what I love the most is the opportunity to meet new people who are usually happy and excited. Think about that for a second. First of all, we don't actually meet new people very often. I'm not talking about just meeting (like a new waitstaff person at the restaurant) but really getting to know someone. Second, when you do meet folks a lot of the time it is through work or some other engagement that is not necessarily the most exciting. But with photography I get to meet folks, really get to know them, and then spend a good amount of time with them while they are celebrating their success. This is why I love taking pictures of high school senior and college seniors - they are always excited for what is coming next and I get to be a part of that for a moment.

Although I had known of Karla on my periphery for some time, I had not gotten to know her. But through taking her senior portraits, I felt like I got to learn so much more. She is a first-generation college student who really had to put in the work to get where she is today and she knows that her achievement represents a lot of struggle and a lot of support from her family. Her family and her culture are really important to her so we incorporated both in her senior portraits session. I was so happy that Riverside and UCR was close enough for them be a part of the session. I have also learned that Karla has a heart of gold and want to dedicate her life to helping others through social work - I am so lucky to have met Karla and I know she loves all of these images!

I would absolutely love to get to know you too and celebrate your achievements as well! If you would like to learn more about how we creat your dream senior portraits clicke below.
