Mari gets a Masters!

Updated: Aug 26

So obviously I love all of my clients. I think there are three types of clients. The ones I meet while going through my daily life who love my work and decide to hire me. The ones who find me on Facebook, Instagram, or Google and I cultivate into being awesome clients. And, finally, the ones who are refereed to me by someone else. Here is the thing, when someone has been referred to you that means someone else told them about me! Someone else has vouched for me as the go to for the products and services I provide. That is a pretty awesome feeling! Marimar contacted me to take her graduate portraits in Riverside, California. Mari was referred to me a friend and colleague at UCR where I also work. Best of all Mari was my first client who hired me to take her portraits to commemorate achieving a Masters Degree. Over the course of the graduate portrait experience we talk on the phone or meet in person and get to know each other a bit. Then at the portrait session it is fun and easy breezy because we have already broken the ice! When Mari and I spoke, we talked about what to wear for the session. Mari opted for a green Empire style dress that worked wonderfully for the aesthetic she was hoping for!

In this case, Mari also brought along her Mom, Dad, and Brother and we had a great time. I loved seeing how proud Mom and Dad were of their baby who has already achieved so much and is just getting started. It was also a lot of fun to be there as her brother gave her a hard time about how, "its the first time she has ever looked nice." Like most of my clients, Mari does not have modeling experience, but I gave her a lot of posing guidance and showed her what to do with her hands. These prompts gave her the courage to pose in front of all sorts of people who were at the park as we made some great images.

Since Mari was not able to be at the campus where she got her degree, we opted to have this portrait session at Fairmount Park in Riverside, California. The park has quite a few different looks from woodsy to palm trees. It really was perfect for a graduate who wanted to express her Puerto Rican heritage!
