Winning Wardrobe

Updated: Aug 26

Our longtime friends contacted us to take Senior Pictures of their youngest daughter who is graduating from High School in Redlands, California. Of course we were super excited because who wouldn't love to make beautiful images of the child of people who hold a special place in your heart. You see, these parents we are great support for us when we were young college students. They offered a place for me to stay when the dorms closed, took us to lunch after church, and threw us a wedding shower. For that season of our life they were great friends. Fast forward many years and it is time for their daughter's senior session. We offered to assist with wardrobe selection because we know that can be a daunting task for lots of seniors and their parents, but surprisingly they told us that their daughter had it all ready to go! They were not kidding.

For the portrait session we selected a great park in Redlands that offers a wide variety of backdrops and opportunities to make images. While preparing for the session they let us know that they would like to use our portable changing tent because there were going to be three outfits! In the photo collage you can see all three outfits and why they worked so well. First, you can see that she is comfortable and confident in each of the outfits this alone makes for a great wardrobe. Second, notice how each outfit not only complements her tones but the colors all work beautifully for the setting. The big flowers are perfect for the nature shots because they bring some muted colors with a nod to nature. The bright colors work wonderfully with the muted green tones and provide the needed accent colors. Finally, the casual jeans and black top were brilliant for the images at the outdoor theater where you would absolutely expect to see someone wearing that outfit.

When you are trying to plan what to wear for your senior portraits session we are always happy to help, but, here are a few pointers. Make sure the cloths fit and that you will be comfortable moving around in them. Although not seen here this senior laid on the ground, twirled, and walked all around. Pick a great base color that looks good on you and then select a piece that provides perfect accent colors. Think about the location where we will be taking the portraits and then decide do you want the images to look as though you are in harmony with the location (wearing a cute snow jacket in the snow) or are you looking for a stunning contrast (wearing a formal dress in the same snow). Both outfits will make for great images but you have to decide what look you want to achieve. With just a little planning you can have a great senior session and make images you will cherish for years to come. I am here to help you every step of the way.
